Theater play Ruin: Weimar and the teachings for our youth!
Marne, Deutschland - At the Gymnasium Marne Europaschule, the play "Ruin - Weimar, the Geschied Republic" was recently performed, and it was an impressive experience. This piece is part of a series that deals with the political history of Germany and was specially intended for high school students. The performance took place in cooperation with the state representative for political education and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. The Hamburg Theater ensemble Axen jump brought the 90-minute piece to the stage and caused a lively discussion afterwards.
In this most recently part of the "Weimar trilogy", the pupils followed the exciting stories of fictional and historical figures from 1929 to 1933. The focus was on personal fates, which were characterized by the dramatic economic crisis and the pressure of the emerging National Socialism. This topic was made tangible by the lively representation of the actors and showed how important freedom is today. Questions about simple messages of political parties and the dangers of false reports are topics that affect young people today.
important messages from history
A central element of the performance was the message that freedom must be actively defended. The parallels between the historical events of the Weimar Republic and today's political currents were obvious. The young people were able to identify with the challenges presented and recognized the warnings that come from history. With urgent words, a Jewish artist reminded on stage that "when legitimizes, people are capable of anything". This statement left the students back thinking.
After the performance, the eleventh grader Paul Gwasda spoke up and described his impressions: "It was difficult for me not to concentrate". This illustrates how captivating the implementation of the complex topics and shows the successful approach of the ensemble to inspire young people for historical and political content. It becomes clear that the connection between dramaturgy and historicity has achieved a sustainable effect among the students.
In a time when society is faced with polarization and extreme political opinions, the presentation of such topics remains of great relevance. The examination of the fragile foundations of democratic structures is an important lesson that is not only in the history books, but should also be actively integrated into the discussion in the classroom.
This is how the performance of "Ruin - Weimar, the Designed Republic" remains not only a cultural event, but also an important contribution to the political education and awareness of young people for the challenges of today. The connection of historical events with the present offers plenty of conversation and promotes the critical thinking of the students.
