Kieler OB warns: early Bundestag election would be a Harakiri!
Kiel. A dramatic struggle for the 2025 Bundestag election develops in Schleswig-Holstein! Mayor Ulf Kämpfer (SPD) urgently warns of an early election date on January 19, which the CDU calls for. "That would be Harakiri!" He calls. But in the office of the election manager Tobias Berger there is a relaxed atmosphere. Managing Director Claus-Peter Steinweg assures: "We will somehow make it!" Experience with early elections in recent decades has given the responsible persons.
The question of when the approximately 2.3 million voters in Schleswig-Holstein are called to the urns remains exciting. Union, the FDP and AfD push for an early appointment, while everything depends on the question of trust that Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has to provide in the Bundestag. After breaking the traffic light coalition, a defeat is likely, which could lead to the dissolution of the parliament. The Federal President has 21 days to decide and the election must take place within 60 days.
State parties under pressure
The parties are under immense printing! Usually you have to name your candidates to the state election manager 69 days before the election. But now everything is compressed over a period of 34 days! SPD, CDU and Greens have to hastily find suitable halls for their nominations. The Greens have already set a list party conference for December 8, while the FDP sets its candidates this Saturday. The AfD already made its decisions at the beginning of November.
The challenges are enormous: 1500 election workers must be recruited and trained in Kiel, and all of this in the middle of the hectic Christmas season! The Kiel CDU boss Tobias von der Heide sharply criticizes fighters and speaks of "tactical games". The Greens are open to an earlier appointment, but emphasize the need for orderly conditions to avoid chaotic scenes like the last Bundestag election. The clock ticks and the political tension is increasing!
