The most recent figures from the Kiel Ministry of Education show an alarming increase of 86 percent in violence - from 611 in the school year 2022/23 to incredible 1136 in the past school year. These frightening statistics not only include criminal acts, but also bullying and psychological violence that have to be recorded in a special database since 2018.

The CDU-led state government is concerned about the developments, but emphasizes that schools cannot be held solely responsible for social problems. "The schools alone cannot solve the developments in society as a whole," said a spokesman for the ministry. In the cities, the image of violence is particularly dark: Pinneberg leads with 181 reported incidents, followed by Segeberg with 158 and Rendsburg-Eckernförde with 70. 39 acts of violence were registered in Kiel, which underlines the worrying situation.

Parents and students is outraged by violence

The reactions are violent! Claudia Pick from the State Parent Advisory Board of High Schools is outraged: "It cannot be concerned that our children are exposed to violence there." It draws attention to the influence of social media that lowers the threshold to violence. Lovis Eichhorn, state student spokesman, demands more sensitization in the classroom and support of the ministry to better train teachers in dealing with violence.

Kerstin Quellmann from the union Warns: "Most educators are not prepared for this situation."
