Bowl seal mystery: 34 carcass on Rügen-the cause of death unclear!
in the southeast of Rügen A sad series rages: dead bowling seals have been driving in an alarming number of the beaches since the beginning of October! The discovery of three carcasses on the picturesque Peninsula Mönchgut was just reported again, as Judith Denkinger, curator of marine mammals at the German Sea Museum in Stralsund, unveiled. These carcasses were recovered this morning and brought to the Dänholm between Rügen and Stralsund. This increases the shocking total number to 34! What is going on with these endangered animals?
The questions are piling up! Only at the weekend three dead bowling seals have already been discovered. The causes of death remain a mystery! Earlier examinations showed that the animals were well -fed and had no signs of infectious diseases. There is only confusing information on possible drown! The State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fishing (Lallf) reported that drowning death was difficult to prove, since similar symptoms can also indicate cardiovascular failure. Even the caught in networks does not seem to be a common problem, says Lallf director Stephan Goltermann.
WWF demands drastic measures!
Most carcasses come from the area around the fishing reuse, which the authorities classified as safe. But the environmental foundation WWF raises the alarm and demands that the Reusen in the affected region close - and that immediately! They want to be on the safe side until the mysterious cause of death is clarified. Judith Denkinger has already announced that the next section will take place in three weeks after the ongoing tissue examinations have been evaluated. The number of carcasses will probably be busy with the sections until next year. The hope remains that this sad series will soon come to an end!
