Peaceful convoy unites Eastern and West Germany in Lübeck!

On October 3, the Day of German Unity, various groups in northern Germany invited to a remarkable campaign that should symbolize the togetherness of East and West Germany. The call, organized by the “Citizens' Initiative Northern Germany” and the “Alliance SH and MV, was up”, was encouraged: Over 120 vehicles and more than 300 people from the four northernmost federal states came together to take part in this demonstrative event.

The start of this event started at 10.15 a.m. on the former inner German border in Lübeck. Around 60 vehicles gathered here that formed a convoy towards Wismar's Bürgerpark. About the same number of vehicles also traveled from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After a short break, during which the participants were supplied with snacks, a small Korso started through Wismar, which led along the harbor and finally went back to Lübeck.

joint actions and symbolism

in Lübeck led the route of the participants past the Holstentor and the Untertrave before ending at the bus parking lot at the music and congress hall. The event was not only a demonstration, but also a creative form of expression for the connection of people. A highlight was the joint action in which the vehicles were set up in the form of a heart and the participants formed the word “we”. This formation was filmed with a drone from around 50 meters, which underlined the symbolic character of the action.

The complete event went without incidents and ended at 6.30 p.m. The organizers and the police drew a consistently positive balance of this gathering. It was a sign that in a political period that is often characterized by tensions, people come together and a strong sign of unity. Such events are important to show that despite all the challenges of cohesion and the community should be in the foreground.
