Rescue for Lauenburg: Start of construction on the Butterberg to Hangrutsch drama!
Lauenburg. A dramatic landslide on the Butterberg has decommissioned the B209 for three weeks! Now it is finally being tackled: A huge planier caterpillar has resumed work. The dangerous slopes in the area require the removal of thousands of cubic meters of soil to prevent further slipping. These measures should be initiated earlier, but now it is being made seriously - the city has to take action!
On February 14, 2024, shock came: a whole section of the slope broke off, uprooted trees and blocked the main road. What started as a small incident developed into a major project that significantly impaired the traffic from April to early October. In the meantime, the construction work is in full swing, with the aim of returning to traffic at Christmas.
Disruptions and detours for drivers
But that's not all! Drivers still have to accept long detours. During a routine test, damage to the bridge over the Elbe-Lübeck channel was discovered. A schedule for the repair is still pending, but the building manager hopes for a quick solution to restore the traffic connections by November 18th.
While the planier caterpillar climbs up the steep ramp, the construction workers fight against unexpected problems: parts of the floor are contaminated with sulfates! An environmentally harmful nightmare that now has to be stopped. “Good sand” is to be reused, while the city talks about possible solutions with the twin town of Boizenburg.
The earthworks take place under strict security precautions, whereby the construction field is monitored by video. Drivers who continue to ignore the traffic regulations are held accountable. In the meantime, there are also work on adjacent supply lines. A hectic and tense everyday life for everyone involved!
