Schaeffler covers 4,700 jobs: Bavaria affected - what now?

Herzogenaurach, Deutschland - The Schaeffler group raises the alarm! In a shocking step, the automotive and industrial supplier plans to reduce 4,700 jobs in Europe in the coming years- and this also has dramatic consequences for Bavaria! After the merger with Vitsco, a net reduction of 3,700 positions is expected, which makes the workforce shrink by 2,800 employees in Germany. This corresponds to a massive decline of around 3.1 percent of the total staff, which comprises 120,000 people worldwide.

Ten locations are affected in Germany, including the large works in Herzogenaurach, Schweinfurt, Regensburg and Homburg. Particularly alarming: Up to 700 jobs could be lost in Schweinfurt, while in Herzogenaurach there are 700 jobs, especially in administration. The works council chairman Jürgen Schenk warns: "This is the biggest attack on the location in many years!" And it also boils in Regensburg: Here you fear that over 700 jobs could be eliminated by taking over Vitesco. The uncertainty is tangible, while IG Metall doubts the numbers and indicates an even darker location.

massive savings and uncertain future

The Schaeffler Group, with these drastic measures, pursues the goal of saving 290 million euros a year by 2029. CEO Klaus Rosenfeld emphasizes that these steps are necessary to secure the company's competitiveness in the long term. But the automotive industry is under pressure - the crisis at Volkswagen is only the tip of the iceberg. Other suppliers such as Continental and ZF Friedrichshafen are also thinking about personnel loss. Rosenfeld expresses pessimistic about the future: "I do not assume that 2025 will be better." The uncertainty remains while the workforce is worried about its future.
