Cultural action project in Torgau: new board with great challenges!
In Torgau, the Association of Cultural Action Project (Cape) faces an uncertain future. After only one year in office, the previous board members Katrin Arndt and Maria Schmidt laid their offices for personal reasons. This meant that an important general meeting took place on October 1st, in which a new board had to be elected.
The Cape is committed to promoting alternative culture in Torgau and the surrounding area. The association is known for its events such as concerts, cabaret and readings in the cultural bastion. But current developments throw a shadow on the positive work that the club wants to do.
New board faces challenges
Wolfgang Sens, a long-time member of the board, was re-elected and will be supported by Knut Wenselau and Birgit Schmock-Wagner in the future. The approximately 40 members present are high hopes in the new board, which is intended to continue the successful work of the association. In particular, the dissatisfaction with the previous management is in the room. The former board, which also included Managing Director Uwe Narkunat, had ignored allegations of members, which led to a membership college and the subsequent new election.
"We first wanted to get an overview of the business operations of the association," explains Sens. With this realignment, the board could bring a breath of fresh air to the often criticized way of working.
Uwe Narunkunat sees himself further as managing director
Uwe Narkunat, which is still listed as managing director on the Cape website, has been on sick leave for several months. Although he did not want to publicly comment on the events, he reported that he would like to still do justice to his role as managing director. However, a return remains uncertain.
In order to continue the business of the association, Daniela Voigt was hired as a new employee. Previously worked in school social work, she brings valuable experience in project management and funding acquisition. She sees her job as an opportunity to further expand the work of the association.
"My focus will be on managing all funding and processing open tasks," explains Voigt confidently. With around 20 employees, including mini -jobbers, the association hopes to cope with the upcoming challenges and continue to be able to make the cultural bastion attractive.
The club has gone through a lot since its foundation in January 1993. The focus was originally on the operation of a municipal cinema. Over the years, the Cape has developed into a cultural institution that not only organizes films, but also live concerts and other events. The opening of the Torgau cultural bastion in 2005 marked a turning point in the club's history. Now, before the challenge of successful continuation, the new board is optimistic about the future.
