Wolves cheer in the shooting festival: 5-0 victory against Leipzig!

VfL Wolfsburg celebrated an impressive comeback on the fifth matchday of the Women’s Bundesliga and defeated RB Leipzig 5-0 on its own. The victory came just one day after the first defeat of the season, which the wolves had to accept at Eintracht Frankfurt. With this clear result, the Leipzig team overtook in the table and is now in third place with ten points.

The game in the AOK stadium was held in front of 3,026 spectators. Lynn Wilms, the Dutch international, brought Wolfsburg 1-0 in the 21st minute. After the half -time break, the team finally went serious: Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir scored in the 65th minute, followed by Lineth Beerensteyn, who scored two goals in the 76th and 90th minute. Rebecka Blomqvist grabbed a hit in the 84th minute after recently returning from a serious injury. Alexandra Popp, who recently announced her resignation from the national team, was directly involved in three of the five goals.

The match course in detail

In the first half, both teams offered some promising opportunities. Vivien Endemann, who was in the starting eleven, had a good opportunity, but failed due to the Leipzig goalkeeper Elvira Herzog. In return, there was almost a goal for Wolfsburg when Leipzig's Vanessa Fudalla only hit the outside network. But the wolves soon took control of the game. After several corner balls, Wilms managed to get the ball under the crossbar unsustainably and to achieve the lead.

In the second half, RB Leipzig got better into the game in the line -up. Coach Jonas Stephan brought Marleen Schimmer for Jenny Hipp to strengthen the offensive, but the compensation did not want to succeed. After a strong parade by Wolfsburg's goalkeeper Merle Frohms, the guests are increasingly lost in energy. In the 65th minute, the wolves then scored the decisive goals that sealed the outcome of the game.

trainer reactions after the game

Wolfsburg coach Tommy Stroot was satisfied with the performance of his team. "We played well in the first half and used the right rooms to create opportunities," he said. The coach was particularly proud that his players came into their own in the second half and overwhelmed the defensive of the Leipzig.

On the other hand, RBS Leipzig's coach Jonas Stephan expressed himself respectfully about the opponent: "Congratulations to VfL Wolfsburg, that was a deserved victory. They had a good plan and presented us with great challenges. Overall, the result was of course disappointing, but I don't think we were five goals worse."

Wolfsburg's victory comes at the right time, since the team is now preparing for a very important date in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. On Tuesday, the team will play against AS Rome, followed by a Bundesliga top game against Bayern next Saturday in the Volkswagen Arena. With the performance shown against Leipzig, self -confidence of the wolf should be a decisive advantage.
