Radon warning in Saxony: Employers have to act now!

An alarm sign for employers in Saxony! On the occasion of the 10th European Radontag, the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LFULG) is reminiscent of the urgent duties that apply in the radon career areas. These areas comprise 107 municipalities in the districts of Erzgebirge, Vogtland, Central Saxony, Saxon Switzerland/Easter Mountains and Zwickau. Employers have to be active here, because the risk of radon is real and can be particularly high on cellars and ground floors!

In the affected regions, it is mandatory to measure the radon concentration over a year. This applies not only to existing jobs, but also to new companies that are opened in these areas. Whether production halls, offices or restaurants - the invisible threat lurks everywhere! If the reference value of 300 Becquerel is exceeded per cubic meter, measures must be taken immediately. Ventilation is the simplest solution, but deeper interventions are often necessary to sustainably reduce the radon load.

funding for radon protection measures

In order to improve protection against radon, the Free State of Saxony offers financial support. In the funding period 2021 - 2027, grants from the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDRE) can be applied for. This support is aimed at municipal corporations, non -profit organizations and small companies that want to implement measures to reduce the radon concentration. Projects that stop the radon from penetrating into buildings or reduce concentration inside can also be funded outside the radon pre -provision areas.

Due to its geological conditions,

Saxony is particularly susceptible to Radon, a radioactive noble gas that rises from the ground. If it penetrates buildings, it can accumulate there and cause lung cancer with long -term exposure. The European Radon Association (ERA) uses November 7, Marie Curie's birthday to draw attention to the dangers of Radon and to sensitize the population. Employers in Saxony are now required to become active and protect their employees!
