ASP outbreak in the Rheingau: Hunting and posture is threatened!
on the Rheininsel Mariannaue, which is located between Eltville in Hesse and Ingelheim in Rhineland-Palatinate, three wild boar cadavers were tested positively for the African pigpest virus (ASP). This was announced by the Hessian Ministry of the Environment and led to the immediate intensification of the search measures after a first ASP case in the region was found on December 9, as Wildundhound . For this reason, the restricted zone II in the Rheingau-Taunus district is expanded, which entails stricter regulations for hunting and animal husbandry in the affected region. In order to prevent further spread to the vineyards, electical fences are built. The precise course of the new restricted zone should be determined in the next few days.
Expansion of the restricted zone in Saxony
In Saxony, measures to combat the ASP were also announced. The State Directorate of Saxony has enacted a general order that includes the expansion of the restricted zone II, which means that the hunt for wild boar in the districts of Görlitz, Bautzen, Meißen and in parts of Dresden is regulated. Hunters are obliged to participate in the increased hunting of wild boar in order to reduce the population and to contain the risk of virus spread. According to ASP-JAGHT Sachsen are also subject to healthy wild boars strict handling rules. Likewise, the transfer of wild boars and pork from the restricted zone II is strictly forbidden to protect the health of the domestic pigs.
