Freiberg's bicycle cinema: nostalgic films and green energy in the hall!
Freiberg, Deutschland - Freiberg.
On November 3, the Freiberg Brauhof turned into an exciting cinema stage when the Chemnitz bicycle cinema presented historical films from Freiberg between 1954 and 1986. This extraordinary event was organized by the Freiberger Altertumsverein e.V. under the direction of Jürgen Bellmann, the Freiberg e.V. with Jens Grigoleit and the Erzgebirgszweigverein (EVZ) e.V. with Dr. Steffen Wagner. The event attracted a large amount of film and bike enthusiasts and ensured a nostalgic atmosphere.
electricity on your own power
The highlight of the evening? The spectators themselves created the electricity for the demonstrations! At up to eight bicycle stations, the participants were able to pedal vigorously with their bicycles, which were clamped in the format of 20 to 28 inches. This innovative idea converted muscle power into electrical energy, which was then used for projectors, PC and speaker - an environmentally friendly and exciting way of cinema!
The Bicycle Cinema Chemnitz e.V. was launched in 2020 and emerged from a microprojekt as part of the Chemnitz application for the title Capital of Culture in Europe in 2025. With 16 committed members, the association is committed to creating cultural experiences in unusual locations and promoting cycling in the region. "Our goal is to strengthen the community, to have fun and at the same time to make a sustainable way - in the truest sense of the word," said the club.
It was an unforgettable evening for the Freiberg, especially for the older spectators who remembered the 800th anniversary of their city. The Chemnitz bicycle cinema not only brings films, but also a piece of history and feeling of community back into life!
