European flair: MDR music summer 2025 starts in Chemnitz!

Chemnitz, Deutschland - Leipzig Soust is for the music highlight of the coming year! From August 8th to September 7, 2025, the 34th MDR music summer with 25 concerts over 23 breathtaking places in Central Germany moored. As a crowning prize, the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz will offer the stage for a rousing open-air concert on Theaterplatz. There will be heard the MDR symphony orchestra and the Robert Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz under the lively conduct of Marcus Merkel, accompanied by top-class guests such as the soprano Fatma Said and the bandoneon player Omar Massa.

top priority also has a moving commemoration: the celebrations around the 500th anniversary of the death of Thomas Müntzer and the turbulent events of the peasant war promise an exciting, cultural journey of discovery. Tickets are already available and the festival promises not only to become an event, but an unforgettable experience for music lovers and those interested in culture!

The festive journey draws through contemplative and historically significant places: from the cathedral in Merseburg to the St. Andreaskirche in Eisleben and through the Weimarhalle in the Goethestadt. Each concert of the MDR-Ensembles offers a special connection between the spectators and the music accompanied by world-class pianists such as Kit Armstrong and Marc-André Hamelin. The MDR children's choir also does not remain idle and tells of peace and hope through music very different genres-from Gregorianikum to pop.

An additional highlight takes place in the Chemnitz castle church, where the spectators can experience the miraculous Vleugels organ. And while the Klezmer sounds of "Kolsimcha-The World Quintet" touch the hearts, the MDR radio choir will delight the audience with a homogeneous mix of spiritual works and French influences. This is the cultural event that will make summer glow!
