Amurkatzen offspring in the Chemnitz zoo: a sensation for visitors!

In the Chemnitz zoo, there are new, fluffy growth! At the beginning of August, the sweet young animal of the amurkatel saw the light of day and now it is researching it curiously through its enclosure. The city of Chemnitz proudly announces that the small velvet paws are now more and more in the field of visitor.

But what exactly does the amurkats make so special? This exclusive cat species is a member of the Bengal cat family and is home to eastern Siberia and northern Mongolia. While the Bengal Cat is not a threat to the overall, the population of the amurkats is under great pressure due to the dwindling habitat and hunting. Her coveted fur makes her a goal for poachers, which is why species is considered to be very threatened.

A look behind the scenes

The young animal spent the first few weeks hidden and only appeared after about 14 days with eyes open. This is already the fourth offspring for the Amurkatzen couple who has lived in Chemnitz since the end of 2019. Interestingly, only three other facilities in Germany keep these special toddlers, which makes the Chemnitz zoo a real treasure for animal lovers. Here visitors can experience something very unique and immerse themselves in the multifaceted world of amur cats!
