Görlitz. A shock for all travelers! The renovation work at Görlitz station, which started in March 2023, stand still! Deutsche Bahn threw the plans over the pile after static problems have been discovered. Railway spokesman Jörg Bönisch confirmed that the work on the platform hall cannot be continued due to serious damage to the foundation and the steel frame. Instead, the workers are now focusing on the renewal of the concrete base.

Originally the sandblasting work in September should begin, but these plans have failed. The damage discovered during the dismantling of the masonry was much more serious than expected. "We are creating a new planning for the damage to damage and the renewal of the platform hall," said Bönisch. Work on the concrete socks has already started, but the uncertainty remains: When will the hall finally be released for train traffic?

New schedule in the suspension

The delays are enormous! The new planning of the construction work has caused a massive gap. "Unfortunately, we cannot call a specific dates for the further construction process," said Bönisch. The statics have to be recalculated, and this means that the hall has to be completely equipped. The railway also has plans for an elevator at the south exit, but there is no clear commitments here either - barrier -free access could only become a reality in 2027.

But there are also bright spots! Deutsche Bahn plans the reactivation and electrification of tracks 3 and 4, which means that electric trains from Poland can soon enter in Görlitz. The planning approval decision has already been announced and the main construction work is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025. The commissioning of the new overhead line is scheduled for December 2026. A new hub for Görlitz - but when will the platform hall finally shine again?
