Railway lines closed: fire brigade practices spectacular rescue in Halle!
A dramatic scenario developed around Halle (Saale) at the weekend when the fire brigade of the municipality of Kabelsketal carried out its annual major exercise on the blocked railway tracks. Thanks to the construction work that paralyzed the railway lines, about 130 brave emergency services from Dieskau-Zwintschöna, Dölbau, Großkugel, Gröbers, Osmünde and Schwoitzsch took the unique opportunity to test their skills in a realistic environment.
The exercise took place in Gröbers, where seven railway tracks run. Not only S-Bahn, but also freight trains as well as ICE and IC. The blocking offered the firefighters the perfect opportunity to prepare for the emergency. The scenario: a car was recorded by a construction train and all four occupants were injured. Two of the injured ran in the rough terrain, which made the search even more difficult at temperatures around freezing. The drone troop from Bad Dürrenberg supported the emergency services in the rescue operation.
challenges in the rough terrain
The firefighters faced enormous challenges. The demolished car was not directly accessible, and the emergency services had to build a plug -in conductor to overcome the steep slope. But that's not all: the crashed construction train had stopped in a tunnel where a smoldering fire broke out. To get there, the rescuers had to climb a railway embankment and down on the other side. It was the first time in eleven years that the firefighters entered this tunnel.
A effort was also the preparation of the accident site. With a muscle -powered trolley, the firefighters pushed the aniled car on the tracks to the exercise site. This impressive exercise showed not only the determination of the firefighters, but also the need to act quickly and efficiently in unpredictable situations.
