Magdeburg boys take the lead in the table with 2:1!

Last Saturday, the U23s of 1. FC Magdeburg were in top form and won 2-1 against VfB Krieschow. With this victory, Magdeburg not only secured three points, but also took over the lead in the Oberliga Süd.

The game took place in the home stadium and had the players sweating early on. Right at the start of the encounter, in the 9th minute, the first penalty was awarded. The Krieschow player Andy Hebler converted this to give the guests an early lead. However, this deficit only seemed to be a wake-up call for the Magdeburg boys.

The course of the game

The first half was characterized by an intense game in which Magdeburg didn't give up despite being behind. Elisio Widmann turned things around with his equalizer in the 40th minute. He reacted quickly and pushed the ball flat into the bottom corner, which gave the spectators new courage. Just two minutes later, Tarek Chahed followed up and converted a corner from Korsch to make it 2-1. Magdeburg went into the half-time break with this lead.

In the second half, Magdeburg continued to show their dominance. Widmann tried to extend the lead early on, but his shot was blocked by the Krieschow defense. In the 68th minute, Chahed missed the chance to score again when his penalty was saved. A free kick taken ten minutes later also failed to find the target. Nevertheless, Magdeburg's defense remained solid and they remained dangerous in the final phase, but were unable to score any further goals.

Coach response and spectator reaction

After the game, head coach Pascal Ibold commented on his team's performance: "We had a hard time getting into the game at first and had a hard time after the penalty. But we were clearly the better team. Krieschow had hardly any opportunities to be a goal threat. Nevertheless, it was a deserved win and okay."

The number of spectators of 77 in the stadium was manageable, but created a pleasant atmosphere for the players. Despite the unpleasant weather event, fans proved that they support the team no matter how challenging the circumstances may be.

Overall, the victory over VfB Krieschow was not only an important success for Magdeburg, but also underlined their ambitions this season. The fight for the top of the table remains exciting and the next challenge will certainly bring new and interesting aspects.
