Handball World Cup 2027: Magdeburg is becoming a sports stronghold again!
Magdeburg, Deutschland - An exciting event is imminent! In 2027, Magdeburg became the scene of the World Handball Championship again! Mayor Simone Borris can hardly hold her joy back: "After 2007 and 2017, Magdeburg is again the venue for games of a handball world championship." The city presents itself as a perfect host and shows that handball is not just a sport, but a passion. A big thank you goes to all supporters of the application and to the employees who will manage the organization!
The World Cup begins on January 13 or 14, 2027 and takes place in several impressive arenas: the newly opened SAP Garden in Munich, the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart, the Wunderino Arena in Kiel and the Getec-Arena in Magdeburg. In these arenas, four teams in two preliminary round groups struggle to move into the main round. The first three teams of each group move on and play in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne and the Zag Arena in Hanover. The grand finale will take place in Cologne on January 31, 2027, exactly 20 years after the legendary World Cup victory of the German handball players!
Germany in handball fever!
The 2027 handball World Cup will be the eighth of its kind in Germany. The country has a long tradition as a host and already organized the tournament in 1938, 1958, 1961, 1974, 1982, 2007 and 2019. With the 30th edition, the decade of handball is celebrated, which began in 2023 with the U21 World Cup and culminated this year with a European record championship. In 2025, the joint orientation of the women's World Cup with the Netherlands.
The Getec-Arena in Magdeburg has already proven in the past that it is a great venue after it was used for men and 2017 for women in 2007. The anticipation for the 2027 World Cup is huge and the fans can look forward to exciting games and unforgettable moments!
