A14 expansion: Stendal becomes the freeway junction of the future!

Stendal, Deutschland - Stendal/Magdeburg. - The expansion of the A14 picks up speed! Work is currently being carried out on a six -kilometer section from Lüderitz to the B188 near Stendal. This part should be completed by the end of 2025, with a huge budget of around 170 million euros! Steffen Kauert, the project manager of Autobahn GmbH in Magdeburg, promises a massive improvement for drivers if the new connection between Magdeburg and Schwerin is finally becoming a reality.

But not everything runs according to plan! The section to the Osterburg junction will drag on by 2028, since the crossing of the Uchte and three railway lines will significantly complicate the construction work. The construction period was extended by three to four years! And that's not all: two years after the lawsuit against the construction between Seehausen and Osterburg, there is still no appointment for the construction start. Transport Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP) is anything but enthusiastic about the standstill.

Current construction projects and challenges

The A14 Elbbrücke between Seehausen and Wittenberge takes shape! The second section was used in July 2024, and the bridge with a length of 124 meters is said to be completed by 2026. A total of four guys are planned, the last two are on the program for January and spring 2025.

The entire new building route of the A14 extends over more than 155 kilometers and crosses the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. While the highway is already in operation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there are still plans for the section between Wittenberge and Karstädt in Brandenburg. The section between Karstädt and Groß Warnow has been completed since 2015. In Saxony-Anhalt has been built between Dahlenwarleben and Wolmirstedt since December 2023.

The A14 north extension has a long story full of delays and complaints. The last section between Osterburg and Seehausen is expected to be completed until 2030 or 2031, but here too the schedule could move further. The patience of the drivers is put to the test!
