Farmers defend themselves: industrial area endangers jobs and fields!
Weißenfels, Deutschland - In Weißenfels it is bubbling! The farmers of the Burgenlandkreis decide against the plans for an inter-municipal industrial and commercial area on Autobahn 9. Before a decisive meeting in the city council, the district farmers' association expresses massive concerns and speaks of a hasty decision in which alternative approaches were not even considered. Managing Director Tina Eulau demands a thorough examination of the funds used to ensure that there are no further industrial areas that remain unused for decades.
The farmers are not only skeptical, but also bring legal concerns into play. The planned area of around 440 hectares, which is located east of the highway, could be used legally for industry, but the commercial settlement could be problematic. In the regional plan, these areas are designated as priority areas for agriculture. According to the farmers, a target deviation that would be necessary for the industrial area could not be durable. They have already informed municipal representatives from Weißenfels, Hohenmölsen, Lützen and Teuchern and spread their worries.
economic questions and jobs in danger
But that's not all! The farmers also question whether the industrial and commercial area can actually create well-paid jobs. In view of the aging of the Burgenland district and the shortage of skilled workers, you doubt that sufficiently qualified workers will be available. The planned commuter friendliness, which is only to be implemented in later development phases, is also viewed critically because it does not cover the direct needs of the region.
Another serious point: the loss of fertile arable soils! The farmers are outraged by the inadequate compensation measures in the feasibility study. The planned seal cannot simply be compensated for by the dismantling of industrial wasteland, since the quality and nature of the floors are not comparable. A member of the district farmers' association is particularly concerned, whose operation manages 160 hectares of lease area. The loss of these areas could not only endanger the existence of the company, but also cost over 100 jobs in the region. The association makes it clear: "The loss of these jobs cannot be the goal of planning the inter -municipal commercial area!"
