Gerry Weber triumphs again: CDU election in Castle causes a stir!
In an exciting competition for the direct candidacy of the CDU for the Bundestag election, the 55-year-old entrepreneur Gerry Weber from Burg triumphed again! With 357 votes, he clearly prevailed against his competitor, the deputy district administrator Sebastian Stoll, who received only 260 votes. Weber, who won the first choice with 249 votes three weeks ago, remains modest: "I am still careful when accepting congratulations."
Weber, a tireless fighter, ran for the Bundestag three years ago, but lost to the SPD candidate Franziska Kersten at the time. "Just two days later I said that I would compete again," he explains. Now he has prevailed internally and faces the challenge of one of the largest constituencies in Germany, the Altmark and Jerichower Land, which extends over almost 6,300 square kilometers - more than twice the size of Saarland! A bus with CDU members took over two and a half hours to get to the castle.
challenges and competitors
The size of the constituency is an enormous challenge for Weber, who plans to work with the CDU members from the two Altmärkische Landkirzen to win the direct mandate. In 2021, the Stendal doctor Herbert Wollmann won for the SPD and also plans to compete again. The Member of the Bundestag Marcus Faber from the FDP has already committed himself as a competitor.
The mobilization of the members was impressive: over 600 party members came to choose a nomination, which is a record. Due to the high rush, a sports hall even had to be rented! Weber, who actively tried to vote, visited numerous members to secure his candidacy. Curiously, 720 members came to election, but only 618 actually gave their votes. Many wanted to be in time for the game of 1. FC Magdeburg in the state capital, which influenced the election time. CDU Managing Director Mario Zeising announced that the Situation was checked.
