Heads in the flood: Saarbrücken honors over 1000 helpers!

Over 1000 helpers from different organizations were involved on this fateful day. "It was a day that will go into the history books of the Saarland," said Mayor Uwe Conradt (CDU). The tragedy even called for a human life, but thousands could be saved or supported. The auxiliary services and authorities worked together in an impressive teamwork to cope with the crisis. The awards were ceremoniously presented in different communities.

Flood heroes honored: 1600 Active in focus

Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger, Interior Minister Reinhold Jost and regional association director Peter Gillo (all SPD) congratulated the managers who received the awards for their units. Rehlinger praised the professionalism of the Saarland emergency services, which was perceived as impressive by supporters from other federal states. "Unfortunately, we have to expect further flood events," she warned and called for flood protection and climate protection measures. In addition, she spoke out for solidarity elementary damage insurance to support people in risk areas.

Interior Minister Jost emphasized the "great cooperation" during the crisis and was proud of the achievements in Saarland. However, Peter Gillo expressed critical comments on public aid for those affected by flood and called for solutions for the hardship cases that are not sufficiently supported. A total of 1600 active entitlement to the honorary sign, and over 1000 of them took part in the solemn event, which was not only an award, but also a great reunion.
