Drama on the A1: truck accident and subsequent accident shake Wittlich!

on Monday, October 21, 2024, a serious traffic accident occurred on the A1 motorway near Wittlich around 5:20 p.m. A saddle tractor with a trailer overturned after the driver got off the road due to carelessness. The truck slipped several meters through the unpaved ditch and finally came to a stop. Fortunately, the driver remained unharmed and the rescue helicopter, which was already on the way, was able to turn back.

The rescue workers, including the fire brigades from Wittlich Stadt, Landscheid, Burg/Salm and Salmtal, were quickly on hand. The motorway police from Schweich and the Wittlich police inspection also supported the rescue and secured of the accident site. Due to the severity of the accident, the A1 in the direction of Koblenz was temporarily closed until the rescue measures were completed.

It is currently still unclear whether this accident is related to the tractor accident and requires further investigations.
