U17 submarine: Dive into the history chapter of history from summer 2025!

Sinsheim, Deutschland - The Marine submarine U17 will be open to the public in the Technik Museum Sinsheim from early summer 2025, such as Merkur berichtet. The 350-ton submarine has a length of almost 50 meters and was transported by Speyer to Sinsheim in the summer of 2024. The transport required both water and land paths and led to the closure of some routes, including the A6. Since its arrival, the submarine has found a place in a parking lot in front of the museum.

Currently the preparations for visitor traffic are currently underway, which include the removal of transport reinforcement straps and the welding of supports. A special attraction will be that visitors can get into the submarine via a bridge, similar to how the submarines did. In addition, the interior of the submarine is prepared to prevent vandalism by securing levers and buttons.

insights and guided tours

In order to offer an authentic experience, multimedia elements are installed, such as original noises, lighting and monitors. Visitors have the opportunity to visit different areas of the submarine, including the bridge, the machine room, the combination, the shower and the sleeping places. Some of the corridors in the submarine are only 80 to 100 centimeters wide, with a through height of about 160 centimeters. Former occupation members will offer guided tours and tell personal stories what the experience will enrich for visitors. The project costs amount to around two million euros, mainly financed by donations.

The submarine was in use from 1973 to 2010 and had its location in Eckernförde. A loan agreement with the technology museums Sinsheim Speyer was concluded after talks with the Federal Ministry of Defense and the Bundeswehr. As land radio , the submarine will not only offer a unique insight into the naval history, but also the possibility to explore it from the inside and externally.
