Sun power despite the fog: Speyer's priest seminar relies on the PV system!
Speyer - a radiant sign of the future! On October 31, the brand new photovoltaic system at the St. German Priest and Pastoral Seminar was solemnly put into operation. Although the fog is covering the October sky, the system has been producing electricity since mid -September. "We generated 7000 kilowatt hours in this short time - that's a real success!", Adults administrative director Dirk Wittmann. With a monthly need of around 6000 kilowatt hours, the seminar can now cover its own electricity requirements and thus shows that sustainable energy can be obtained even in cloudy weather.
technical masterpiece and symbol of hope
The idea for the construction of the photovoltaic system came about in 2022 when the rising gas prices and uncertainties at the energy market made an environmentally friendly alternative to the existing combined heat and power plant. Vicar of General Markus Magin emphasizes at the blessing party: "The blessing is not only for technology, but a sign of hope for everyone who works and learning here." The system, which consists of 222 modules with a total output of 91.02 kilowatt peak, is not only a technical achievement, but also a strong symbol for the future of the church.
The implementation of the project was realized by Wirsol from Waghäusel, which is praised for its quick and professional work. Managing Director Johannes Groß reported on the aesthetic arrangement of the PV modules and also presented a donation check for 1500 euros for aid projects in the Holy Land. For the future, the seminar plans to use the energy that is not directly consumed for hot water production and thus further increase sustainability. "We rely on ecological responsibility and want to be a role model for other institutions," says Wittmann.
