First container village in Bobenheim-Roxheim: family from Syria moves in!

in Bobenheim-Roxheim it is finally time! Next Tuesday, the first refugees move into the container system in the small path. After months of delays caused by bureaucratic hurdles, a family of six from Syria will now receive the new accommodations. These containers offer space for up to 40 people and are to be gradually filled with other residents, similar to the existing collective accommodation in the Palatinate Ring, which houses around 50 people.

bureaucratic hurdles and delays

The long waiting time of half a year since the container was drawn up is due to numerous official delays. The district administration only granted the necessary building permit in July, which forced the municipality to fulfill additional requirements in fire protection before the containers could finally be used. Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) drawn attention to the lack of personnel in the construction department and a lack of experience in dealing with container villages, which hindered the implementation of the requirements.

Although the forecasts for 2023 predicted a higher number of refugees for Bobenheim-Roxheim, the actual recording has so far been behind the expectations. Finally, the need for up to three container villages was even discussed, but these plans have now been rejected. However, the municipality remains ready to further expand the container system in order to meet the needs of the refugees.
