Future of the bar every view: new location for Mainz Queer Center wanted!

In Mainz, the "bar every view" has been working as a cultural center for the LGBTQ+community for 20 years. The operator association recently announced that it is looking for a new location. The reason for this is not that the bar is in difficulties, but rather that the current premises are no longer ideal for the variety of events and meetings that take place here.

Andreas Vetter, a member of the board of the "Funding and sponsoring association of the Cultural and Communication Center for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuelle, Transident, Intersexual and Queere Mainz e.V.", explains the situation. "It is a safe space," says Vetter, and the goal is to preserve this place for the queer community in Mainz and possibly improve. The bar not only serves as a pub; Rather, it is a center in which there are a variety of offers.

challenges in the existing room

One of the biggest challenges in the current location is the lack of separation between the pub area and the event room in the back. This often leads to conflicts when events take place or people want to withdraw. "We found that it just couldn't fit together," explains Vetter. Therefore, the association is now actively looking for suitable premises in the old or new town of Mainz.

His wish for the new location includes a larger area that enables different groups to accommodate at the same time. "It would be ideal if we could compartment smaller rooms," says Vetter. In addition, the new location should continue to be barrier -free, including a separate at the beginning of the advice center. Accessibility is a central concern to facilitate all visitors.

The offers in the "bar every view" are diverse; From panel discussions to readings to workshops, which are guided by specialists. In addition, the bar is a popular meeting place for many different groups in the city, such as the "Qim - queer youth work in Mainz" and the "parent group", which supports parents of queer children and young people. This community work is of great value for the local LGBTQ+community.

cousin emphasizes that there is no time pressure for the move: "We plan in the long term. Everything has to be carefully considered." Although details about the exact time of the move are still unclear, the hope of finding a suitable new place will soon be found that will better meet the needs of visitors and organizers. The community can count on a robust network of support that remains continuously active, regardless of the location.
