Traditional business in Mainz closes after 122 years: a farewell forever!
Schöfferstraße, 55116 Mainz, Deutschland - A piece of Mainz history comes to an end! After an unbelievable 122 years, the traditional Jaeger art shop in Schöfferstrasse closes its doors. The last curtain will fall in summer, even though managing director Heinz Lehnen, who has held the helm in his hand for 35 years, is still hoping for a successor. "It would be nice if it continued, so far, despite our efforts, no successor solution has arisen," he told Mercurist.
The roots of the artistry go back to 1903 when the Jaeger family founded the shop as a stationery business with a religious offer. "It was so common at the time," recalls Lege. After the family withdrawal in the 1980s, the shops leaned and changed the range. "Winand Jaeger accompanied the transition at the time and supported the new orientation," said Lehnen. The focus shifted from stationery to a wide range of art and greeting cards, especially for religious festivals such as baptism, communion and confirmation.
The end of an era
The artistry was a popular starting point for loyal regular customers and tourists from all over the world who visited Mainz. "It was and is a great time with the customers, with the employees," enthuses Lehen. The online shop will also be stopped after the store has been closed after it will continue for a while. The closure marks the end of an era that many will look at with nostalgia and regret in Mainz.
