In New York, Choupo-Moting will meet familiar faces, including his former coach Sandro Schwarz from their time together at Mainz 05 and ex-Bundesliga professional Emil Forsberg, who most recently led the club to the MLS final as captain. Sports director Jochen Schneider was enthusiastic about the reinforcements: “We are pleased to add a player of the caliber of Maxim to our squad,” said Schneider.
