Excursion to Langeoog: Students discover the miracles of nature!
In the picturesque backdrop of Langeoog, biology students have currently set up their tents inside the University of Koblenz-Landau. Under the direction of Dr. Dorothee Killmann has the opportunity to explore the impressive nature of the island. With this exciting excursion, getting to know the diverse ways of life is in the foreground.
On Wednesday, the group was introduced to the secrets of the flushing room, where they collect and analyze mussels, crabs, jellyfish and other interesting beach finds. On a previous day, they had already examined the area around Flinthörn and dealt with the nature and landscape there. The excursion is particularly enriching by the management of Jonas Weinand from the Waldakademie in Wershofen, which specializes in bird world. Weishand will travel to the island to pass on his first -hand knowledge, based on his own experience as a student on Langeoog.
tradition of excursions
This study trip takes place every two years and is an integral part of the teaching master's degree in the Biology Department at the Institute for Integrated Natural Sciences. The focus is on the impressive variety of flora and fauna, which can be found on land, water and in the air. Langeoog was chosen not only because of its natural beauty, but also because it is the ideal excursion goal for prospective biology teachers: inside. The initiator of this impressive journey is Burkhard Leh, a passionate Langeoog fan and pastor who runs the Swedish house of the national park partner.
The participants of this excursion are given a unique opportunity to use their theory in practice and to make direct observations in nature. Such experiences are not only crucial for their studies, but also for their future professions in which they will teach students: inside about biodiversity and nature conservation.
In recent years, the focus on excursions like this has gained importance, especially in view of the current environmental challenges that we face. The students have the opportunity to use and deepen the theoretical concepts they learned in class in real environments.
