Julia Röttjer from the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt has uncovered traces of deported Polish forced laborers in the main cemetery. An urgent memorial is reminiscent of the tragic fate of several concentration camp prisoners, including three from Poland, whose stories now come to light.

But that's not all! Röttjer has also received access to over 140 moving letters and around two dozen postcards that come from the time of National Socialism. These valuable documents were discovered in a loft in Defroth and given the city archive. During the theme week "Victim of National Socialism" in the House of City History, Röttjer read some of these letters to the Polish forced laborers Stanislaw Jakobczyk. These personal lines offer a shocking insight into the life of the people who suffered from the regime.
