Safe driving: E-bike training for seniors in Merxheim!

An e-bike riding safety training course recently took place in Merxheim, which was organized by the Landfrauen Merxheim in collaboration with the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC). Such training is particularly important given the increasing popularity of e-bikes, which are heavier and faster than traditional bikes. It aims to help older people in particular to use the new models more safely and to avoid critical situations.

Under the leadership of the ADFC team, consisting of Bernd Lohrum, Andreas Geers and Thomas Fischer, the participants initially received theoretical knowledge. This included information about the weight of e-bikes, braking behavior and the comparison between disc and rim brakes. Important aspects such as the correct adjustment of the saddle and handlebars as well as effective shifting for optimal engine support were also discussed in detail. This theory forms the basis for the practical exercises.

Practical exercises and the importance of coding

After the theoretical introduction, the participants went onto the course. Here they were able to apply their newly learned knowledge by practicing correct braking, driving through an obstacle course and starting off on hills. These exercises helped to increase self-confidence when using the e-bike. As an additional service, the ADFC also offered the option of coding the bicycles on the frame. This measure ensures that the bike can be clearly assigned to the owner, which is particularly advantageous in the event of theft as it makes resale more difficult.

The feedback from participants was consistently positive. They expressed excitement about the amount of information and professional tips they received that afternoon. It became clear that such events are not only educational, but also very valuable for the safety of cyclists. The ADFC plans to offer further courses, which can be viewed on the Internet at www.fit2ebike.de. There may also be another course with the Merxheim rural women next year.

The importance of e-bike safety training is growing as the number of e-bike riders increases every year. During these events, participants not only learn about the technical aspects of their bikes, but also learn how they can behave more safely on the road. Such initiatives help prevent accidents and raise general awareness of the challenges associated with riding e-bikes. This makes them a big step towards safe mobility by bike.
