Care in a crisis: Why temporary work is shrinking and what helps!

Red alert in the care industry! The dramatic situation is coming to a head: While Germany is struggling with an alarming shortage of 60,000 nursing staff in 2023, more and more facilities are fleeing the cost trap of temporary work. Why is the number of temporary workers falling while the need for skilled workers is increasing? Too expensive, not flexible enough – that is the bitter reality of many care companies. The challenges are enormous and the solution remains a mystery.

Expert Max Grinda provides clarity: “Temporary work is a heavy financial burden.” With costs of up to 65 euros per hour for temporary workers, the bill is skyrocketing! Compared to permanent nursing staff, whose gross wages fluctuate between 22 and 28 euros, this is an unbearable burden for many providers. Only 15 percent of facilities continue to rely on temporary workers - and only 37 percent consider this to be a long-term solution. The right strategies are needed to deal with this alarming situation!

Time is of the essence – nursing companies must act!

The answer to this increasing pressure lies in an innovative strategy: optimizing employee recruitment! More and more care facilities are relying on internal process improvements to break the vicious circle of expensive temporary work. Max Grinda explains that nursing staff today place high demands on their employers: “Transparent processes and quick feedback are the be-all and end-all!” The right adjustments can work wonders - according to FM Recruiting, application receipts increased by 65 percent, while the time to hire was reduced by 40 percent.

The cost pressure doesn't stop! According to StepStone, only 35 percent of nursing job advertisements are successful - a real money guzzler for companies! The targeted optimization of recruiting strategies not only brings faster results, but also significant savings: up to 30 percent in the costs per hire. “Come to stay!” will soon be the motto for care facilities that want to not only survive, but thrive.
