Olive oil: The secret protection against dementia and Alzheimer's!

A current study shows that the daily consumption of olive oil can offer significant protection against dementia. According to reports from Fuldaer Zeitung and focus currently suffer about 1.8 million people in Germany in the coming years rises. In an extensive long -term study, Harvard University with over 92,000 participants examined how olive oil can influence the risk of dying from dementia.

The diet plays a central role in prevention of dementia. In this study it was found that people who consumed at least seven grams of olive oil (such as a teaspoon) every day had a 28 percent lower risk of dying due to dementia. In contrast, participants with lower olive oil consumption showed higher mortality. In particular, the exchange of five grams of unhealthy fats such as margarine or mayonnaise through olive oil could reduce dementia risk by up to 14 percent.

The role of olive oil in nutrition

olive oil is rich in simply unsaturated fatty acids, polyphenols and vitamin E, which contribute to promoting cardiovascular health and possibly protect against cognitive decay. The German Nutrition Society recommends a daily oil consumption of 10 to 15 grams. However, Oekotest indicates quality differences in olive oils that can influence the health benefits.

In addition, it was found that a Mediterranean diet that is rich in fruit, vegetables, fish and herbal oils is considered protective for brain health. The consumption of black and green tea is also recommended, since these drinks also contain polyphenols that promote the blood flow to the brain.

The Harvard study also illuminates other risk factors for dementia, including lack of exercise, head injuries, alcohol, high blood pressure and diabetes.
