In the eerie Halloween night there was a real chaos in North Rhine-Westphalia! In Marl, the police and fire brigade were attacked by hooded attackers, while Mayor Werner Arndt (SPD) was in the middle of the action. The location escalated when teenagers with firecrackers and even burning shopping carts started on the emergency services. The police reported a massive increase in rest distances and violent clashes in several cities.
The situation in Marl was particularly dramatic, where the attackers with stones and pyrotechnics attacked a group around Mayor Arndt. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the police arrested four people and took nine more custody. The main suspect, a 16-year-old from Marl, is now suspected of having committed serious breach of the peace and attempted dangerous bodily harm. The police were in use throughout the region. Several people sought were caught in Düsseldorf, while a group of around 100 young people caused unrest in Erkrath.
