Freibad Eschbachtal: Last tiles auctioned with great renovation!
Freibad Eschbachtal: Last tiles auctioned with great renovation!
Remscheid. After a long wait, friends and supporters of the outdoor pool Eschbachtal were given the opportunity to have personal memorial in the form of tiles to acquire. Before the extensive renovation work begins, the Freibad Eschbachtal support association organized a special campaign, in which visitors could buy 300 hand -painted tiles. It should be emphasized that these tiles are provided with unique photo motifs that the members of the association have created.
The chairman of the association, Stefan Grote, is already looking forward to the upcoming start of construction. "The excavators will soon tear down the larger buildings," he explains. The Eschbach is then diverted, which represents one of the first measures as part of the renovation. When asked about possible weather problems, Grote answered: "An excavator is not interested in winter." He predicts that work will start properly in the next four to six weeks.
roadblocks and contaminated sites
The head of the Sport and Leisure Service, Martin Sternkopf, refers to important preparations that still need to be made. The ordnance clearing service is pending to examine the area because a APP was once stationed here, and there is the possibility of contamination from old ammunition. He emphasizes that the last approval should also arrive soon. "We expect temporal delays, but according to the plan, the work should be completed by the end of 2026, with the opening at the beginning of 2027," said Sternkopf.
The plan not only provides for the conversion of the outdoor pool, but also includes additional facilities such as a caretaker's apartment, a fish climbing staircase and a forest stage. These measures are fully financed by the association. This represents an important project for Remscheid and could increase the attractiveness of the region.
an extraordinary souvenir
Back to the event: At the official start at 2 p.m., more than 20 of the tiles, each sold for ten euros, were sold. The special thing about it? Visitors were not only invited to buy the tiles, but also actively to break out of the tiles from the walls. Some even wore protective glasses to be safe when hammering. "It was significantly more work than expected," said one participant after his first attempt to free a tile.
Dennis and his three-year-old son Linus-Maxim were among the hard-working helpers. After a few attempts, the duo proudly held an intact, turquoise tile in the hands, while the hammering on the premises could be heard. This type of activity not only aroused memories, but also ensured a joint atmosphere among the participants.
The social head of the city of Remscheid, Thomas Neuhaus, describes the renovation of the outdoor pool as a "very good signal" for the city. It is a sign that you continue to make a constructive way in Remscheid. Compared to the earlier years, when up to 800 tiles had to be exchanged due to frost damage in spring, Neuhaus expresses a mixture of wistful and expectation regarding the changes. "I am happy when the old bathroom is gone and the new will take up the company," he adds.
Some visitors came from the area to attend this special event. Friedhelm Verken and his wife Renate covered over 100 kilometers to take part in the model boat trips in the Eschbachtal outdoor pool, which were always a highlight for them. Such anecdotes give the history of the outdoor pool an additional personal note.
For the transitional period, only the H2O in Hackenberg will be available to the residents as an alternative until the Eschbachtal outdoor pool opens its doors again. The future of the outdoor pool is not only a local matter, but also takes a look at the development of the entire urban area.
