Gladbeck celebrates the first blue light day: experience rescue workers up close!

The younger visitors in particular were fascinated by the impressive emergency vehicles that were the highlight of the day for many.

On the action area in front of the town hall, it was impressively demonstrated how emergency services can save people from accidental vehicles. The fire brigade carried out a realistic rescue exercise that captivated the audience. In addition, the height rescue group of the Recklinghausen district showed which skills are needed at lofty heights to secure people safely, such as when operating on wind turbines.

The work of the THW was illustrated by the demonstration with a tree bending simulator. Here, the helpers showed how to handle a chainsaw and remove a tree from a car to free a person that may be enclosed. Such missions are rare, but often particularly lengthy and challenging, as experienced in February during the flood on the lip.

The DLRG was used in the indoor pool to demonstrate how swimmers can be saved from the water. The demonstrations included practical tips that are helpful even without extensive training. Visitors learned which special techniques and devices were used for rescue operations.

The event also offered many participation offers, especially for children. In the "Cuddly Antiest Clinic" of the Maltese, injured soft toys could be "operated". The DRK initiated a blackout course that helped the children prepare for possible power failures. Particularly well received the opportunity to sitting on the police motorcycles, which put a bright smile on the face of many little visitors.

Elimination of prejudices and sense of community

An interactive highlight was the output of running cards for children. These had to be filled and stamped to obtain a goodie bag that contained a coloring book and sticker, among other things. The fire chief Thorsten Koryttko and Mayor Bettina Weist said positively about the course of the event.
