Art from potholes: Grunschel opens studio in Strombach!
Florastraße 15, 51645 Gummersbach, Deutschland - In Gummersbach, creativity blooms out of the asphalt! Karl Grunschel, a 75-year-old artist, transforms everyday road damage into impressive works of art with his unique technology. Instead of annoying himself about potholes and cracking, he lets his imagination run free: a gully cover becomes a bright planet and small damage blooming as a colorful, lively elements in his work. For Grunschel, these streets are true treasures of his creativity!
The mysterious process of how Grunschel puts his ideas into reality could not be more creative! The artist uses a so -called stamper - a construction machine that normally serves to compact floors - and thus distinguishes the damage on strong handmade paper. Thanks to the black acrylic paint, which serves as the primer and weather protection, his works shine outdoors, where they emerge both as pictures and as dimensional sculptures. Majestic kings are created from a gully mask, which grow in different sizes of a few centimeters to impressive six meters!
a studio full of creativity
Briefly, Grunschel, together with his partner, the painter Christine Scheid, opens his studio at Florastraße 15 in Strombach. As part of the "Open Atelier Oberberg" campaign, the doors will be opened on November 2 and 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art lovers can look forward to a variety of works of art that are for sale. Grunschel has a simple point of view: "The ideas provide me with the road users very involuntarily," he says with a smile and points to a huge pothole right in front of his home.
Whether colorful gap filler or gigantic gully imperies, Grunschel always remains lawful and causes great interest and, above all, enthusiasm in the neighborhood in his creative reappraisal. Despite the occasional interest of the police for noise pollution, the artist is enjoying extensive support for his unusual work and his admired works.
