A new place for democracy: the Democracy Church Oberberg in Bielstein!

In Wiehl-Bielstein, a remarkable project is launched, which is intended to strengthen the cooperation between the Catholic and the Evangelical Church in the region. It is planned to found the “Democracy Church Oberberg”, a place where both Catholic and Evangelical Christians will come together to actively work for the values of democracy. Dr. Bernhard Wunder has already made the preparations as the initiator and sees great opportunities for this unique project.

The idea is to create a public space in which the members of both faiths can stand up for a decent cooperation and diversity in our society. This is done not only in the context of services, but also through various further activities that aim to promote dialogue about democratic values. The Catholic pastor Tobias Zöller and the Protestant pastor Silke Molnár have already signaled their support, as have other local church representatives.

a strong sign of democracy

Wiehl's mayor Ulrich Stücker also expressed a positive statement about the foundation of the "Democracy Church Oberberg". In a press release, he emphasizes that current events show how threatening the enemies of democracy occur. The new challenges that society faces make it necessary for all groups to work together and counter these tendencies. His appeal to fight together for democracy is conveyed by the founding of this church: "The 'Democracy Church Oberberg' can make an important contribution," explains Stücker.

To create the project, there will be an information and motivational meeting in the St. Bonifatius Church on Tuesday, November 5th. There Dr. Bernhard Wunder and Silke Molnár lead through the evening and officially present the idea of the "Democracy Church". The aim of the meeting is to spread the information about the project in the district and motivate interested members of the communities to actively participate.

  • A unique project to promote democracy in Oberberg
  • committed church representatives and mayors support the Initiative
  • Planning for regular discussion groups and workshops

The commitment aims to address various social issues, including anti -Semitism, racism, discrimination and sustainable development. Dr. Miracles want young people to be involved in the discussion, since they often deal differently with political and social issues than older generations. Special formats for democracy promotion are planned, including workshops in which the recognition of false reports on social media such as Instagram is discussed.

The opening meeting takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will serve as a platform to both spread information and motivate the participants to get involved in the "Democracy Church Oberberg". Furthermore, a sponsoring association is currently founded to take over the administration and coordination of all activities. By the end of the year, a website, at www.democracy churches-oberberg.de, is also to be set up, which serves as an information center.
