A locally coveted ice hockey derby between the Krefeld penguins and the EC Bad Nauheim was overshadowed by violent riots on Sunday, December 22, 2024. The game in the Yayla Arena, which took place in front of impressive 8,027 spectators, had to be classified by the police as a high-risk event after reports on hooligans and provocations in advance. The fans of both teams not only provided heated scenes on the ice, but also outside of heated scenes, such as the reported new press
During the game, there were tumulties between rival fan groups, which even irritated the players. Provocations meant that the police had to intervene after a woman was slightly injured. The Krefeld police also report two reports on assault and a total of 15 references. After the final whistle, Krefeld fans blocked a bus with Bad Nauheim followers and damaged windows with throwing objects. Here, too, the police had to intervene with pepper spray and batons to control the situation, such as Freenet executed.
The police recorded all people involved and have filed several notes for breach of the peace and property damage. In addition, there were clashes in a nearby restaurant, which have not yet been finally examined. The incidents illustrate the tense fan conditions and increase the pressure on the security strategies in future games.
