Herne. On November 21, the Cranger Christmas magic will open with a spectacular ice rink! Eismeister Björn Linnemann, 57, is full of use to finish the train in good time. But the work is anything but easy!

A burst hose messed up the morning from Linnemann, but it remains calm. "This is not a big problem," he says, while he sprays water on the track with a fire hose layer by layer. The principle is simple: the refrigerant has a different freezing point than water, so that it can flow at sub -temperatures and freezes when contacting the hoses.

a roof for all weather conditions

This year there is a big innovation: a huge tent roof protects the ice skaters from rain and snow! "We wanted to become more independent of the weather," explains Linnemann. Up to 120 people can skate under the transparent roof at the same time. The schools have already reserved the morning times for their students - the demand is huge!

But the roof also brings challenges. Due to the breathing air of the many people, condensation can form, which, like in a stalactite cavity, creates stalagmites on the ice. These bumps must be removed quickly so that the runners can do their rounds unhindered. Eismeister Björn is aware of the constant care of the ice: "The ice cream always needs attention!" With his small grinding machine, Penguino, he ensures that the train stays in top shape. The anticipation for the opening of the Cranger Christmas magic is huge - ice skating can begin!
