Sporty heroes: Übach-Palenberg celebrates its stars 2024!
In a glamorous ceremony in Zweibrüggen Castle, the “Sporty City” Übach-Palenberg was celebrated! In his thrilling speech, Mayor Oliver Walther (CDU) emphasized how important sport is for the community. "We live in a sporty city," he emphasized, referring to the large number of clubs that shape sporty life - from football to tennis to water polo. These clubs are not just names, but pulsating communities that are worn by passionate people.
The sports ceremony 2024 was a festival of performance! Walther not only praised the athletes who shine on the field, but also the tireless helpers in the background. "Behind every great sport event are people who organize and support everything," he said. This recognition applies to those who take care of the equipment, the game organization and the finances so that the clubs work smoothly. "If the fans call VfL or proudly carry the jersey of the DJK, many people have done a lot right," continued Walther.
awards for outstanding services
The honor was an impressive testimony to the sporting successes of the past year. Rosa Klöser, the young Gravel biker, is internationally at the highest level and was awarded for her outstanding achievements. The waterball team of SV Übach-Palenberg also celebrated their unbeaten championship title in the men's district league. In football, Lydia and Detlev Drews were honored as the main pillars of the SV09 Scherpenseel-Grotenrath, while Josefine "Fine" Kramer and Marcel Kranz were recognized for their tireless efforts at TuS RW Frelenberg.
These honors show how much passion and commitment to the city's sport is put. "We remain a society that is committed and enthusiastic," concluded Walther and left those present with a feeling of community and pride.
