Sports promotion in Hamm: Lack of money brakes talents and trainers!

Sport in the city of Hamm absolutely needs financial and structural revision. This demand is getting louder, especially after the Olympic Games in Paris, in which athletes from Hamm were also represented. Frank Scharschmidt, organizer of the sports gala in Hamm, emphasizes that the foundation stone for a successful future must be laid in school sport. The main criticism is the massive underfunding of sports funding in Germany, which leads to talents often not receiving the necessary support.

The branch manager of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Hamm, Stefan Peltzer, confirms that there is no lack of commitment and interest in children and adolescents. However, the trainers are missing to promote these talents. There is even a waiting list for interested children in the club, but the lack of full -time coaches for competitive sports is alarming. This is mainly due to the fact that many trainers volunteer and are therefore limited in time.

Need for full -time trainers and support

Peltzer emphasizes that most coaches in Hamm work part -time. The requirements for competitive athletes are high if you have to train frequently and regularly. "I could imagine working as a trainer, but the requirements for competitive athletes are simply not to be agreed with a full -time job," said Peltzer. The framework conditions would have to be changed for real professionalization.

A rethink is also required in the school area. Many talented young athletes often have to coordinate their training plan with the teachers, which builds additional hurdles. A positive example is the Goethe-Gymnasium in Dortmund, which integrates early training into everyday school life. Such models should also be implemented in Hamm.

economic support and synergies in sports

On the positive side, however, there are also progress in Hamm. The city grants the sports clubs free use of their sports facilities, so that the participants have low costs for their activities. In addition to the financial support, the commitment of urban companies that offer advertising opportunities and donations in kind for the clubs.

Stefan Peltzer also emphasizes the enormous advantages of club management. This training can help increase the professionalism of the sports clubs and create economic networking. The support that already comes from different areas could be further optimized by a stronger cooperation between clubs and the economy.

The city itself plans to invest around 30 million euros in sports in 2024 and 2025. These funds are intended for construction, renovation and maintenance of the sports facilities. In addition, over 800,000 euros per year from the Stadtsportbund will flow to the promotion of sport. Financing through different sources shows that the support is available, but is often not sufficient to achieve the desired success.

Another future -oriented project is the Westpress Arena, which could serve as a model for other regions. This multifunctional use of sports facilities and retail shows how sporty and economic interests can be combined sensibly.

The challenge remains, however: the framework conditions urgently need to be improved so that talented athletes in Hamm receive the support that they earn. A rethink is required, not only by those responsible in sports, but also from schools and the economy. This is the only way to continue the sport in Hamm in the future and offer the many talented athletes a real perspective.
