Hamm receives new drinking fountains: protection against vandalism and the latest technology!
In the city of Hamm, a new drinking fountain was recently inaugurated, which serves as part of an initiative to improve access to drinking water in public space. After the first fountain was only on Luther-Platz for a short time due to technical problems and vandalism, the municipal utilities hope that the new version is now more stable and more user-friendly.
The modern drinking fountain is equipped with a highly developed technology that not only improves hygiene, but also optimizes energy consumption. This is how the pump is operated by solar energy, which means that the fountain runs environmentally friendly. In addition, an integrated cooling fan ensures that cool water is available even on hot summer days.
further developments and plans
The responsible authorities plan to carry out a number of tests in the coming months. These tests include the removal of water samples and the analysis of the frequency of use of the well. The Mayor of Hamm, Marc Herter, pointed out that if the citizens are positive, a second drinking fountain is already planned for the coming spring.
The EU drinking water guideline, which came into force in early 2023, demands that all citizens should have access to drinking water in public space. This measure supports the objective of building more drinking wells in heavily frequented places. The first steps to implement this guideline have already been taken in Germany.
Free drinking water in Hamm
In addition to the new fountain, Hamm has set up further places where citizens can remove drinking water free of charge. These stations are listed on the official refill page and offer a pleasant alternative to recharge your water. The locations include:
- Sparkasse Hamm (Weststraße)
- brocbals
- Central library (in the reading)
Refill Germany is committed to facilitating access to drinking water nationwide, with over 7000 stations already registered. The initiative promotes awareness of the importance and value of drinking water in our society.
