Two little fighters: How a family in Hagen masters the impossible

Hagen.A dramatic fate takes its course: The twins Leon and Natan were born in the 27th week of pregnancy - far too early and with a fight for survival. Her parents, Aneta and Rafal, are facing a huge challenge, while Larissa from the “Bunten Kreis Hagen” is at their side.

In a lovingly furnished living room, where two baby swings and stuffed bunnies await the little fighters, Aneta describes how she and her family have prepared for the arrival of the tiny newborns. “We just think twice now,” says the 32-year-old with a smile. Leon weighed only 1085 grams when he was born, Natan 1090 grams - a real fight for survival for the two little brothers.

A ray of light in the darkness

The twins spent the first few weeks in the children's hospital, where they were fed through a stomach tube. Aneta reports how important it was that the premature babies could feel the warmth of their parents. “Especially for premature babies, it is crucial that they feel the warmth of their parents’ and siblings’ hands,” she explains. After a difficult period, the two fighters were finally discharged at 37 weeks pregnant, with Leon requiring an oxygen machine due to pneumonia.

The support of Larissa, the pediatric nurse, was invaluable to the family. “She didn’t lecture us, but met us at eye level,” says Aneta gratefully. As Larissa checks the twins' vital signs, the family beams with pride. “Leon and Natan are little fighters and fought hard,” adds Aneta, while her daughter Alicja plays with the twins. A heartfelt moment that shows that despite the challenges, the light of hope continues to shine.
