Coalition crisis: Habeck calls for the SPD and FDP to act!
Kanzleramt, Berlin, Deutschland - In Berlin it is bubbling! Economic Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) has urged the SPD and FDP to move to avert the premature coalition. In a dramatic appearance in the ARD “Daily Topics”, he explained that he was ready to use the freely freely millions in order to stuff pressing household holes. "Now I also expect the others to make suggestions and not just demand," said Habeck. On Monday he met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and finance minister Christian Lindner (FDP) in the Chancellery to clarify the tense conditions.
The dispute over economic policy threatens to tear apart the coalition. Unconditional summit meetings and contradictory papers have further fueled the conflict. Before the decisive meeting of the budget committee on November 14th, many gaps still have to be closed. Scholz has already invited to several small rounds to discuss the future of the coalition. On Wednesday there is a major meeting with the party leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP, which could decide on the direction of the coalition.
The traffic light coalition under pressure
Habeck warned of the challenges that the US election and the Ukraine war bring. "Now is the worst time for a government crisis," he emphasized. Despite all the differences, he sees an agreement on the federal budget in 2025 as possible. The freedom-made Intel billion, which were intended for the climate and transformation fund, could help close the household gap. Green Group leader Katharina Dröge also called for more dialogue between the coalition partners and criticized Lindner's suggestions as a "targeted provocation".
Finance Minister Lindner commented in a podcast on the differences with Habeck. He emphasized that in the coming weeks it is about "directional decisions". Lindner explained that he had a good way with Habeck, but had a completely different access to economic policy issues. "It is not a complement, but a contrast," says Lindner. Chancellor Scholz remains optimistic and sees the basis of the traffic light coalition in the coalition agreement that has already been negotiated. He makes it clear: "We have to act pragmatically, not ideological!"
