EU maintains political dialogue with Israel despite allegations!

Brüssel, Belgien - Brussels (dpa) - the EU remains steadfast! Despite severe allegations against Israel because of its military actions in the Gaza Strip, the political dialogue with the country is not initially exposed to. At a decisive foreign ministerial meeting in Brussels, several countries, including Germany, signaled that they reject the proposal of the EU foreign representative Josep Borrell. A unanimous decision is required, and so the dialogue remains intact until further!

The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) was also among the critics of Borrell's initiative, who, however, did not hesitate to demand targeted measures against Israeli government members who question the right to exist of the Palestinians. Borrell had already brought penalty measures against Finance Minister Bezhalel Smotrich and Minister of Police Itamar Ben-Gvir. The tensions rise while the EU is in a delicate location!

Humanitarian aid in Gaza in focus

The situation in the Gaza Strip is alarming! Baerbock commented concernly about the immeasurable suffering of the people, especially the children. "There are no excuses that humanitarian aid cannot get to Gaza," she emphasized, referring to the obligations of international law. The EU made it clear that there must be no settlement or displacement from Gaza. Borrell's proposal to suspend dialogue is based on the analysis that Israel violates human rights and international law in the fight against Hamas and other terrorist organizations. However, the EU officials emphasize that it is not a complete termination of relationships, but only about freezing the dialogue that has existed since the Association Agreement of 2000. A symbolic step that could continue to heat the tensions between the EU and Israel!
