NRW promotes innovative waste recycling: 30 million for matterr!
The cooldown°earth Foundation congratulated its portfolio company matterr on its recent funding commitment from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. As ots.at reports, the funding decision was handed over on August 6th in Düsseldorf by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Mona Neubaur. The aim of the support is to avoid the export of waste from industrialized countries that burdens the poorest countries.
matterr has developed an innovative, patented solution to convert waste back into high-quality raw materials. With the funding received in the amount of 30 million euros, which comes from the ERDF/JTF program “Productive.NRW”, the company can move forward more quickly with the construction of a second plant in NRW that will be operated on a small-scale industrial scale.
Innovative technology
The technological core of matterr's process is the depolymerization of PET under mild conditions. This technology enables the molecular upcycling of mixed waste such as multi-layer packaging and textile blends. The planned plant will have an annual capacity of 10,000 tons and will go into operation in 2027. Minister Neubaur highlights the benefits of these innovations for the climate, the creation of jobs and the strengthening of innovative strength in the region.
Although cooldown°earth is not a direct recipient of the funding, the foundation plays an important role as an early investor. The income from the investment will flow into non-profit climate and environmental protection projects, which further underlines the foundation's commitment in this area. cooldown°earth was founded in 2013 by Dr. Annekathrin Edelmann and Wolfgang K. Hoever as a private, non-profit foundation.
