Düsseldorf is planning the largest solar park in the Neandertal: 2,800 households will benefit!

In the Neandertal, where the historic limestone quarry once flourished, the Düsseldorf company Grünwerke is planning to build an enormous solar park. At six hectares, this facility will be the largest of its kind in the Mettmann district and will ultimately be able to supply around 2,800 households with electricity annually. A decisive step for the expansion of renewable energies, which politicians have been pushing for since November last year.

The project is being implemented on an area that was previously used as a quarry fill area. Unfortunately, this area has lost its agricultural usability because the soil is heavily compacted. This means that agricultural use is no longer possible, but this does provide the ideal conditions for building a solar park.

Public information event

Interested citizens have the opportunity to find out more about the plans. On Tuesday, November 5th, at 6 p.m. there will be a public information evening in the Kulturvilla at Beckershoffstrasse 20. Representatives of the green works and members of the city administration will talk about various aspects of the project. The land use plan for the former limestone quarry site, environmental and species protection issues as well as the importance of photovoltaics for the energy transition are on the agenda.

It is encouraging to see the city's commitment to alternative energy. The planned solar park is not only a contribution to reducing CO2 emissions, but also a step towards a more sustainable energy future. The exchange with the population is of great importance in order to clarify possible concerns and questions directly. This opportunity for discussion is seen by many as an opportunity to raise awareness of the need for renewable energy sources.
