Gas alarm in Witten: Fire brigade and police in large-scale operation!

Witten.A dramatic gas alarm sent downtown Witten into a state of excitement on Friday afternoon (November 15th)! Police and fire departments were on duty when gas was reported to be leaking from a building on lower Bahnhofstrasse. Red and white ribbons and the flashing of emergency vehicles attracted numerous onlookers who didn't want to miss the spectacle.

The situation initially appeared serious when the police cordoned off the area at the end of Poststrasse. Firefighters in full gear, some with oxygen tanks, were quickly on the scene to assess the situation. The shopping mile was transformed into an operational zone while the emergency services did everything they could to avert the danger.

The all-clear after a quick deployment

But rescue came quickly! In the early evening, the fire department gave the all-clear on “X”: “The gas supply was turned off with the support of the municipal utilities,” the emergency services confirmed. The affected building was ventilated and the danger was averted. In addition to the professional fire brigade, the central fire fighting group was also in action, while the volunteers from Bommern manned the main station. A happy ending for everyone involved!
